Job Description

The Role 

The Deputy Head of Boarding supports the smooth running of the Boarding House, ensuring the safety, wellbeing, and engagement of boarders. This role plays a key part in building a positive, supportive culture and works closely with the Head of Boarding to lead the boarding team. The Boarding House at Peninsula Grammar is comprised of students from Australia and all over the world, residing on site in a purpose-built facility.  

The Deputy Head of Boarding is a residential position with accommodation provided by the School, which is suitable for an individual or a family. This position operates during the Boarding Operational Term, including the Term Three break, and includes a mix of day, evening, weekend, and sleepover shifts. This is a full-time, leadership role sharing on call responsibilities with the Head of Boarding and acting as the Head of Boarding in their absence.  

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:  

  • Support Boarders’ Wellbeing: Build positive relationships with students and help support their emotional, academic, and physical needs 
  • Assist with Leading the Team: Help manage and guide boarding staff to create a safe, caring, and respectful environment 
  • Run Daily Operations: Assist with the smooth running of the Boarding House, including meals, routines, activities, and sleepovers 
  • Be On-Call: Share after-hours responsibilities and respond to any issues or emergencies that arise 
  • Follow School Policies: Make sure all work meets child safety, health, and school policy requirements 
  • Help Improve the Program: Look for ways to make boarding life better for students and staff 

About You 

  • Relevant qualifications in Education, Nursing, Youth Work, Allied Health or similar 
  • Experience working with young people, ideally in a residential or boarding setting desirable however not essential 
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to build a positive, inclusive culture 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to connect with students, staff and families 
  • A strong understanding of adolescent development, wellbeing, and behaviour management 
  • A commitment to child safety, continuous learning, and professional growth 
  • Confidence using technology and managing tasks independently in a busy environment

Desired Skills and Experience

All positions at Peninsula Grammar require:

  • Current VIT or Working with Children Check  
  • First-Aid, CPR, Asthma and Anaphylaxis qualifications 
  • Child Safety training (Mandatory Reporting Certificate)

Please note: This is a term-time only position. While you will not be required to work during school holidays, your salary will be averaged and paid evenly throughout the year to ensure consistent payments following our pay cycle.
